The show must go on...

When people use the word 'challenging' to describe 2020, I know they are using that very British of techniques: understatement.

Still, it's better than using 'unprecedented' which has to be the most overused word EVER.

I'm so happy to see venues like QUAD finally reopen after so long. There is something about attending an arts venue that nourishes the soul, even when there is no performance at that moment. The anticipation of drama. The essence of creativity. The feeding of the brain through knowledge.

Having attended Creative Mornings and PechaKutcha events at QUAD, I feel an affinity with the space and the team who run it - I'm so happy to see people return to their roles; it gives me hope (which we need).

It also gives me hope that other venues and events will open fully at some point in the future, particularly in the East Midlands. Our region has a wealth of creative minds. It may not get some of the exposure of other regions, but between the three cities of Derby, Nottingham and Leicester, there is something special about the people I meet. Understated, perhaps, but full of vigour nevertheless.

I've run events across many cities around the world, and despite offers to take it elsewhere, our flagship event, MarketEd.Live, will always remain an East Midlands one.

Since 2018, we've hosted MarketEd.Live at fellow arts venue, Nottingham Contemporary, but we've always kept our connection with Derby, where we hosted our inaugural event in 2017. QUAD has been a great supporter of our event and our team and I appreciate the support it's given us.

Sadly, we're unable to host an in-person event in 2020, but we have been determined to provide some level of learning to the East Midlands and beyond and keep up our mission of improving the creativity and outcomes of marketing.

So, starting Monday 21st September 2020, we've created MarketEdLite, an online platform where those that wish to learn more about the latest strategies and ideas in marketing, can access ten sessions from across the world, in the comfort of their own home (or wherever they choose to watch).

It's definitely not a virtual conference - I'm all Zoomed out, and nothing replaces those hugs as you meet a friend you haven't seen in a year. Instead, industry experts from Derby to Denver will present sessions lasting 30-60 minutes, consumable on demand.
