By Charlene Sharp & Hana York - The Mainframe Team

Award & ConfettiWe asked this year's wonderful Mainframe Awards 2020 winners how they felt about being winners and here's what they said. Plus we had a fun day handing over their physical awards and capturing the moment on amazing 360 video!

Family Participation

Winner: Deda - The Deda Team

"It is amazing to be the winners of the Mainframe Family Participation Award. Full Moon Friday - as part of Derby Feste - was a very special project for many of us at Deda. We would like to acknowledge the contributions made by our fantastic Feste 2019 partners who played an integral role in the success of the event and to all the families who came out on the night to take part."

Make & Trade

Winner: Paul Adamson Woodland Craft - Paul Adamson

“Thank you for the interest in my work and for the judges kind comments. I hope that being involved in these very positive awards, brings the ideas of hand carved woodenware to the local scene and new groups of people. Its a joy to carve wood”

Digital Disruptor

Winner: Louise West Lace Design - Louise West

"I was thrilled to win what will be my third Mainframe Award and the whole event really has been my highlight of 2020. Lace craft is having a huge revival and it's wonderful to see how digital technology has aided this. It's a silver lining of the year's ups and downs that I'm now talking to and teaching more people than ever from across the globe, growing the practice of this physical craft through digital means."

Mainframe Unsung Hero

Winner: Repeat Digital - Kamran Hussain

"The events night and awards ceremony was amazingly set up and planned by the Derby Quad team, especially by Hana and Charlene. It was a great honour and opportunity to be involved and linked with lots of creative people and businesses around the Derby and Derbyshire area, and show our appreciation to the great talent and businesses we have in our local area. Being nominated for the award was a privilege alone and hopefully, more people can be involved next year and get the recognition they deserve."

Best Digital/Creative Start Up

Winner: Cad for Fashion - Erica Horne

"Absolutely thrilled to have been named Best Digital/Creative Start-Up. After what has been a crazy year with some huge highs and real lows, the awards were just what we needed to not only reconnect with the lovely Mainframe community but to make us reflect on the challenges we have overcome to get here! To have been shortlisted alongside such an amazing line up of impressive businesses in the first place was a real honour so to have actually won an award means we can finish this year on a high."

Emerging Digital/Creative Star (Under 25)

Winner: Future Proof Films - Jessica Frearson

"It's been an honour to win 'Emerging Digital/Creative Star (Under 25)' at the Mainframe awards. The ceremony was incredible to attend and Hana and Charlene really made the night feel special. A huge thank you to Rob for nominating me as well as the rest of the team at Future Proof Films for supporting me for the last 2 and a half years. It was an amazing night, with some amazing people celebrating a talented city💖'

Best Digital/Creative Upscaler

Winner: Frosspark - Liam Nelson & Rob Twells

"This is a fantastic achievement and one that is dedicated to all the team at Frogspark who have worked tirelessly through a tough year! It came as a genuine surprise, which was obvious when I completely fluffed my speech! The event was fantastic, very engaging and well planned by the Mainframe team, considering this was all done via a live stream and Zoom!"

Creativity For Good

Winner: Hubbub Theatre - Jen Sumner

"We are honoured to receive this Award from Mainframe Derby and we thank everyone involved, especially Simon Carnall, Head of Derby County Community Trust, for selecting us as winners in such a field of excellent work across the city.

Creativity and Culture play a vital role in making positive change and supporting wellbeing on a personal, community and global level. 2020 has highlighted this even more and creatives have committed to supporting and connecting with communities, despite funding challenges and insecurity about what lies ahead. So many companies and artists are worthy of a Creativity for Good award which makes this feel even more meaningful to us."

Putting Derby & Derbyshire On The Map

Winner: Bloc Digital - Keith Cox & Chris Hotham

"Derby is where the vision for Bloc Digital started. We’re proud of our strong roots here in this talented and forward thinking community, where we have grown and innovated.

We’re very honoured to have received this award for playing our part in developing the region’s prominence in creative digital sector both in the UK and globally. We look forward to continuing the success of our industry, attracting business into the city and showcasing innovation and talent."

Digital/Creative Ambassador of the Year 2020

Winner: QUAD - John Whall

"Mainframe brings together and strengthens the creative communities of Derby, from the independent artists starting out to the established creative and digital agencies. I’m completely honoured to win the 2020 Digital/Creative Ambassador of the Year. All the Mainframe award nominees and winners highlight the breadth of creative talent the city has to offer, and to be included amount them is a great privilege."
