Pledge your support for Derby's City of Culture bid 2025

multi-on-whiteBack in October 2021, Derby made it on the longlist of places to be in with the chance, to be crowned UK City of Culture 2025.

Derby is up against Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Bradford, Cornwall, County Durham, Southampton, Stirling and Wrexham County Borough.

Culture Derby - Museum On Tuesday 11th January, business leaders from around the city were invited to an event held at the Museum of Making, to find out how to contribute to what is hoped will be a huge success story for Derby and how to pledge their support for the City of Culture 2025 bid.

The Business Engagement Team for the City of Culture 2025 bid was announced by Claire Twells, Business Development Partner at Smith Partnership and Chair of the group, that includes - Adam Buss (Bid Director - City of Culture 2025), Rachel Hayward (Ask The Chameleon/Swap Shop UK), Amy Burton (Marketing Derby), Bev Crighton (University of Derby/Derby County Community Trust), Natalie Gasson-McKinley (Federation of Small Businesses), Peter Ellse (Cosy Foundation), Karine Fowkes (Partnership for Better Business), Amo Singh Raju (Disability Direct) and Charlene Sharp (Mainframe Derby/Sport Sessions).

All of whom, are not only working to secure further pledges from businesses but have also pledged themselves to support the bid. All contributions are welcome, whether it be sponsorship or non-financial. We also understand that circumstances change and your pledged support does not form any kind of contract.

The UK City of Culture title is held by a city for one year and is administered by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). The title is currently with Coventry, who due to the impact of covid have had it extended into this year.

Winning the bid can strengthen communities, drive economic growth, inspire local pride, and attract new investment and tourism.

Next stages include; Derby's formal bid will be submitted on Wednesday 2nd February.

  • Longlist application deadline: February 2nd 2022
  • Four city shortlist announced: March 2022
  • Winner announced: May 2022
