There can be little doubt that this past year has called everything we thought we knew about working and office environments into question. As many begin to make their way back to the confines of traditional city offices, Ann Turner – founder of the recently renovated Amber Mill Rural Enterprise Centre – shares how this unique business and creative space caters to our changing workplace expectations.
Working from home has proved to some to have its benefits. Yet, having a designated space to host corporate meetings, events and day-to-day activities remains fundamental in preserving a united business culture. Indeed, many personnel have lacked significant social contact this past year and are eagerly awaiting the return of day-to-day interactions and ‘water cooler’ chats with their colleagues. So, while many feel ready to return to the routine provided by a structured working environment, the lockdown period has undoubtedly shifted expectations when it comes to commuting and sitting in a fixed space for nine hours a day.
It is this fresh approach to working which makes Amfrec an ideal location for these looking to meet the needs of today’s employees.
Originally built by Daniel Hopkinson in 1817 as a Mustard Mill, the grade 2 listed building was bought by the Turner family in the 1920s for the Amber Mill Furniture Manuf. Co. Ltd est. 1909. Between 2017 and 2020 Ann Turner embarked on a mission to revolutionise this unique piece of Derbyshire’s history.
The ambitious renovation has kept many of the characteristics which defined the original Mill, with the exposed Derbyshire sandstone providing a rustic, charming feel. The open-plan, flexible space is perfect for those looking to escape traditional office life. What’s more,
Amfrec is situated in the idyllic Derbyshire countryside, with a designated outside seating area providing a unique setting for meetings, socialising and events.
Away from the bustle of the city, Amfrec enables quiet, peaceful working conditions while keeping you plugged in and connected to five major cities. Swapping out busy roads and city distractions for some neighbouring cows, Amfrec is ideally suited to those looking for a calmer office environment.
The neutral interior, large half-moon windows – providing an abundance of natural light and stunning views – alongside full kitchen and lounge facilities mean that Amfrec is a blank canvas space for you to make your own. For photographers and creatives, the interior can be decorated and styled to suit your requirements. For corporate businesses, the open-plan, airy feel promotes both a creative and productive working space.
Amfrec is now open to occupants.
